Lost in Vietnam – two-day MTB tour in Hoi An backcountry

We set out together for a two-day adventure deep in the backcountry of Hoi An. Crossing the Thu Bon River delta, we head inland through plains, valleys and untamed landscapes. From here begins a discovery of authentic Vietnamese countryside, with rivers winding between mountains and fertile fields.

Along the way, we pass small villages and meet locals known for their hospitality. You'll learn about customs and traditions and, if you wish, you can try a bit of farm work. Throughout the journey, we follow small paved roads, dirt tracks and mountain paths.

Accommodation is deliberately simple: once we leave the main roads, there are no tourist hotels. We stay in small, local guesthouses — clean and basic.

Program Day 1 – 80 km (49 miles)

Departure from our office at , heading across the Thu Bon delta and into Hoi An's backcountry. After a short mountain pass — the toughest climb of the day — we follow the river through villages nestled between mountains and fields. Where the road ends, we board a boat up a deep valley to the next village. A few more kilometres bring us to our guesthouse for the night.

Program Day 2 – 60 km (37 miles)

After a simple local breakfast (usually noodle soup), we ride towards a hidden forest spring for a refreshing swim and short break.

We then stop for a casual lunch at a roadside eatery before continuing into the mountains. The journey ends with a ferry crossing that brings us back to the Hoi An Central Market.

Total distance is about 140 km without repeating the same section. The exact route can vary based on weather, season and trail conditions. We can customize the route in advance according to your interests and fitness.
